On all of the media outlets, the quarantine of nurse Kaci Hickox, of Maine is being questioned.
Governors of New York and New Jersey are implementing a policy that all of citizens returning from Ebola stricken territories, will be quarantine upon arrival. Doctors, nurses, volunteers and our military personnel should be commended and applauded for their outstanding service in helping other foreign nations combat this deadly disease. They are indeed our heroes!!! However, government officials have an obligation to protect the AMERICAN public...no matter what and this should ALWAYS be their FIRST PRIORITY.
This mandatory quarantine does not lessen one's freedom or infringe upon their rights. If you ask our military personnel should they be quarantined in Italy for 21 days, before returning home to their spouses, children and love ones, I am sure they would rather make that sacrifice, to ensure their love ones do not become ill, infected or worse. We must always continue to act for the GREATER GOOD of our people. The media should focus less attention on the "quarantines of our citizens" and focus more attention on the potential impact this deadly disease will have when it spreads throughout this nation. There is only a matter of time before it does. In the mean time, WE MUST TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO LESSEN ITS IMPACT TODAY, because to put it off until tomorrow, may be entirely to late for you, your love ones, your coworkers, your friends and your neighbors.
IT ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY!!

Okay! Yes Amanda, I 100% completely agree with you!! I really want to call that lady some mean things right now. I am happy how she was selfless and went to help another country fight a horrible disease. But coming home just to turn into a selfish monster is totally absurd. I've heard about her complaining and then today she went out of quarantine to go bike riding. What civil rights does she have thats being violated?! It makes me sad that I'd just rather those healthcare people stay home. They do a good deed and then want to return home to possibly infect us. I can't believe that she would want to put her family or friends in harms way. Maybe she never comes down with Ebola, but dangit wouldn't you want to be sure and safe. What if she did and infected her husband and he died while she survived....how good would she feel then. The sad thing is we had a government program with the CDC in place for infectious disease but Obama did away with it in 2010. The feds had "provisional quarantine" power. http://dailycaller.com/2014/10/03/president-ebola-in-2010-obama-administration-scrapped-cdc-quarantine-regulations-aimed-at-ebola/
ReplyDeleteI thought their first priority was to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States? That Constitution guarantees certain rights that the government cannot infringe. If I told you that you were now forced to stay home for an indefinite period of time, I do believe you would say that infringed upon your freedom. Without probable cause that someone is a direct threat to others, I fail to see how the government has the authority to forcibly quarantine people.
ReplyDeleteYour statement about military personnel is a red herring. They chose to go over there and they are under orders to do so, not civilians at home. Once people enter the U.S., their civil liberties automatically apply. When you argue about the greater good, are you really advocating the elimination of the Bill of Rights and Amendments 1-9? If we should care only for the greatest number of people and not their rights then I guess you are.
